The HaleakalA National Park Trails

Haleakalā National Park is home to some of the most awe-inspiring hikes on Maui. The park is known for its volcanic landscape and offers different trails for all skill levels.

Sliding Sands Trail

One of the most popular hikes is the Sliding Sands Trail. This 11-mile round trip trail will take you into the crater of Haleakalā at over 10,000 feet above sea level. As you descend, you'll experience otherworldly landscapes filled with unique plants and rock formations. The colors and the scenery shift as you go deeper, creating a surreal hiking experience that feels almost extraterrestrial.

Halemau’u Trail

The Halemau’u Trail offers a different perspective of the crater, starting at the rim and descending 2,800 feet into the crater. This trail is about 6 miles round trip and takes you through beautiful native vegetation. Hikers often encounter colorful birds and unique flora found nowhere else on earth.

This easy trail is about 0.6 miles round trip and provides a fantastic view of the surrounding valley and lush mountains. This hike is perfect for families or those who want a quick scenic walk.
