What do we bring?


Bring as little as possible! Necessities are sturdy shoes for hikes and crossing waterfall streams. Preferably all in one shoes for adventures and getting wet, such as Chacos, Tevas, Keens OR simple reef shoes and tennis shoes. If you plan on swimming, best to wear your bathing suit under your clothes. If staying at a hotel, bring hotel towels. You may want to bring your cameras/phones, hats, sunglasses and environmentally safe sunblock (Sunscreens without Oxybenzone and Octinoxate). For half day hiking adventures, reusable water containers and a light pack or backpack.




What do you provide?


For each vehicle: a cooler with water, extra towels, head lights, flashlights, underwater lights, umbrellas, mosquito repellant, first aid kit, trekking poles, sanitation wipes, hand sanitizer, Dramamine, ibuprofrin, paper towels and other necessities.




Do you provide snacks or meals?


For half-day hiking tours - we provide bottled water and quality light snacks such as trailmix, energy bars, Hawaiian chips. For Hana tours - we provide 1- 2 loaves of fresh local banana bread (more for larger groups). You will also have excellent local places to choose from for lunch at your discretion. We believe eating at the best local places is a big part of your experience. In addition, there are tasty Hawaiian snack stands along the way, so you may want to bring extra cash and a credit card considering some places are cash only. For lunch on Hana Tours: Nahiku Market, Hana Farms, Thai by Prahnee, Braddah Huts BBQ, & Da Fish Shack are great options. If you prefer a restaurant. Travassa Hotel Hana's restaurant is the best choice. In addition, there are numerous stands to choose from with banana bread, tropical fruit, smoothies, Coconut ice cream, coconut candy, coconut water, icees, hawaiian coffee, and other tasty treats along the way. For Valley Isle Tour, meals are not included due to flexibility of choosing upperscale restaurants such as, the Mill House at Tropical Plantation, Kula Lodge Restaurant or your choice! In addition, Paia Fish Market and Choice Cafe in Lahaina are excellent choices. Local Hawaiian snack stands are also availabale further into the West Maui Mountains loop, should those locations be part of our tour, so you may want to bring extra cash and a credit card.




What kind of shape do I need to be in?


You don't need to be a superhero! Full day tours are tailored to YOUR experience and capabilities. Whichever you prefer along the way, your guide will make sure you have an unforgettable day in paradise. Half day hikes specify difficulty level and skillset needed, and in general are for active types. In addition, custom half day hikes can be provided based on ones experience and skillset.




Should we tip the guide?


That is for you to decide. If you feel we provided a quality tour and your guide made it an exceptional day! Leaving a gratuity is customary and a great way to show your appreciation.




Do we need to sign a waiver?


Yes, it is standard procedure for Private Tour Operators to have a Release of Liability Waiver signed by every person in the group before you begin your tour. Parents/guardians with minors must sign for them. With the understanding, safety is always a first priority.




What is your cancellation policy?


Cancellations up to 48 hours before tour activity time are fully refundable, less a 3% administration fee for domestic bookings, and a 5% administration fee for international bookings. However, we will wave the administration fee, if it's Covid-19 related. A "Force Majeure" cancellation policy is now in effect for Covid-19 related causes; and is fully refundable within 24 hrs, if documented proof is provided. If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled tour departure, or are a no-show for any other reason, no refund will be provided. Tours may be transferred to another name or rescheduled at no cost, depending on availability. Tours go rain or shine. However, we make reasonable arrangements to reschedule upon request, depending on availability. We take your safety seriously and if weather and road conditions are deemed to be dangerous, we will reschedule or cancel the tour. If Makana Maui Adventures needs to cancel a tour due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, your payment will be fully refunded. Refunds may take up to 15 days to be posted to your account.




What vehicles do you use?


2019 Honda Odysee minivan for up to 7 passengers and/or 2017 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van for up to 6 passengers. Modern, clean, climate controlled, 3rd row seats, automatic sliding doors on both vans, auto lift gate on Chrysler, for VIP service and cruising in comfort.




Are you fully licensed to carry passengers?


Yes, we are. We have a Motor Carrier Certificate from the Public Utilities Commission (PUC #4953C), and carry all required commercial auto and General Liability Insurances. This is important for safety reasons.

Do you want a well rounded education of the islands through local experiences and certifications vs pre-scripted content that is shared to the majority? Then lets keep it interesting. We cater to all types, but for those who prefer the next level of adventure based on your skillset, we can accommodate you.




What's your Covid-19 tour protocol?


We will take all necessary measures to keep you safe and healthy on our private tours when Hawaii reopens to tourism. From hand sanitizers, disinfectant hand wipes, to multi-purpose wipes combined with alcohol spray will be used for sanitizing interior of vehicles and door handles after each tour. In addition, guides will have their temperature checked before each assigned tour. That in combination with only offering private customized tours, getting away from the crowds and exploring nature, should make all the difference in choosing an experience, that not only feels comfortable, but creates excitement for a well deserved getaway! Masks will not be mandatory inside our vehicles or while exploring the outdoors due to oxygen levels needed for healthy stamina and prolonged energy for the day. However, masks will be required for visitng select public areas and facilities where it's mandatory to enter, so please bring them. If you forget your mask, we will provide disposable ones.
